HOME DINNER MENU LOCATION NEW BERN LINKS

A New Bern Landmark

Located in a c. 1874 building, Fred and Claire's is a cozy establishment in the downtown historic district. It is the oldest restaurant still in operation in New Bern and is mentioned in "A bend in the Road," a novel by local author Nicholas Sparks.

Many local residents remember having hamburgers in the restaurant as early as 1934. Quite different now, Fred and Claire's is owned by Martin and Jan Czaykowski who moved from Fairfax, VA three years ago and made New Bern their home.

Open for lunch Monday - Saturday and dinner Wednesday - Saturday, Fred and Claire's offers a variety of delicious dishes prepared fresh daily. Our homemade soups and quiches at lunch are always favorites, especially the tomato basil soup and the lobster and crab bisque. Other lunch specials may include NC Crabcakes, Mediterrean Salad w/Grilled Grouper along with Reubens, Tuna Melts, fresh homemade Chicken Salad and Super Clubs. Try our Black and Bleu Burger. Private parties are welcome; please call 252-638-5426. See our Dinner Menu for evening selections.
